Therapy With Dr. Vince

My approach to therapy is simple; I am committed to the mental health, emotional well-being and general wellness of Black men. This understanding coupled with my formal training and life experience arms me with the unique ability to meet you where you are on your mental health journey and help navigate you toward your desired goals.

One question I typically ask my clients is “if you had a magic wand how would you use it to change your life?” Most responses do not indicate a want for things such more money, nice cars, or a big house. Instead, they wish for meaningful things like a better relationship with family, to become more assertive in the workplace, to have more confidence and self-esteem and to be truly happy. This is in line with what most people desire, which is to become authentic versions of themselves and to be more connected to the people that they love.

These responses highlight the gap existing between what most people possess and what they wish to attain. This gap is where depression and anxiety thrive. My role is to help you navigate the gap through a process that validates your concerns and normalizes them, and provides you tools to create constructive and sustainable practices to transform what you desire into what you possess.

To facilitate this process my focus is on helping you shift your thinking. Repeated thoughts eventually become behaviors and repeated behaviors eventually become a lifestyle. I believe that people seeking to change their lives can first begin by changing their thoughts. Changing thoughts, however, requires identifying the pattern of negative thoughts, challenging those thoughts and actively unlearning the processes of producing them. This navigation is best achieved by intentional work and objective guidance. I am committed to guiding you into the life that you desire by empowering you to change the thinking that influences your actions.

The therapy method that I use is known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is a collaborative approach allowing you and I to identify the thoughts and feelings that are producing specific undesired behavioral outcomes. Identifying these thoughts in a safe space with me acting as a non-judgmental, objective advocate provides you with an environment where you can make real sustainable life changes. This is a strengths-based approach that focuses on your ability to make the changes you desire to make in your life by enhancing your ability to understand and address the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

If you are a Black man seeking a therapist who invites you to come just as you are, values the diversity of your unique experience and will challenge you to become your full authentic self, then contact me today to begin your journey.
